Welcome to the University of York Student Switch Off campaign – your chance to fight climate change and win prizes for yourself & your college, all for doing easy things to save energy.

A cash prize for my college?
All the colleges at York compete to save energy and recycle and at the end of the year the hall that saved the most energy and recycled the best gets a cash prize!

Interesting, how can I win?
To help your college win just save energy and recycle where possible over the year by following our simple energy-saving tips. We also give away individual prizes over the year such as Ben & Jerry’s and TOTUM cards. These are given out to students who get involved in our social media competitions that run every 2-3 weeks. Like our Facebook page and follow us on Instagram (@studentswitchoff) and Twitter (@nus_switchoff) for a chance to win!

Volunteer with us
With over 5,000 students living in college accommodation, we need all the help we can get in spreading the energy-saving message. Every year we train volunteers with transferable skills on communication, team-work and campaigning and these Ambassadors encourage their friends and flat-mates to save energy and recycle wherever possible through events, knowledge-sharing and audits. If you’d like to be one of our fantastic Ambassadors, sign up to attend our training session on 17th October here.

Who’s taking part?
All residents of on-campus accommodation are automatically taking part in the competition, whichever college you’re living in! Students living off-campus in private accommodation aren’t taking part in the competition, but it’s still really important to save energy to reduce your carbon footprint (and keep your bills low!).
