We encourage students to firstly follow the waste hierarchy: Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repair, Recycle.
The best thing you can do is to create less waste wherever possible; think about using reusable items instead of single-use and buy products with minimal packaging if you are able to. But it’s important to recycle as much as possible when you do have to throw something away. This is because it conserves our natural resources, saves energy, protects ecosystems and people, and reduces air and water pollution. However, it can be confusing and difficult to know what you can recycle – especially when the rules are different depending where you live.
The recycling facilities in each college vary slightly so you’ll need to check what can/can’t be recycled in your specific college. In general, the following items can/can’t be recycled – all recyclable items should be relatively clean and dry before being put in the recycling bin.
