We encourage students to firstly follow the waste hierarchy: Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repair, Recycle.
The best thing you can do is to create less waste wherever possible; think about using reusable items instead of single-use and buy products with minimal packaging if you are able to. But it’s important to recycle as much as possible when you do have to throw something away. This is because it conserves our natural resources, saves energy, protects ecosystems and people, and reduces air and water pollution. However, it can be confusing and difficult to know what you can recycle – especially when the rules are different depending where you live.
Below is a list of things which can and cannot be recycled in your halls of residence.
Your halls of residence have a dry mixed recycling bin and a general waste bin in each of the kitchen areas – all recyclable items should be relatively clean and dry before being put in the recycling bin.
